- High Point Swimming Pool
Our role
This commission involved the delivery of a unique swimming pool house, based on our experience delivering Windlesham House School’s well-loved timber-framed pool and sports centre.
The project start had already been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A key part of our role was to take the pressure away from our client and get the poolhouse back on track. Despite further delays due to the 2021 lockdowns, we achieved planning consent, agreed a challenging budget, and coordinated all stop and start dates during lockdown periods, keeping disruption to a minimum.
Project details
This unusual project houses an existing outdoor 15m family swimming pool within a new timber and glass structure. The new enclosure is designed to complement the family home completed in 2007.
The fully accessible poolhouse includes a pool hall, changing room, gymnasium, showers, sauna, spa and steam room. Large east-facing windows frame views across the garden.
Sustainable
At our client’s request, the new poolhouse has been designed to be as sustainable as possible. A cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glulam timber frame significantly reduce the upfront carbon footprint of the new building (compared to a steel frame.)
Designed to Passivhaus standards, air source heat pumps, photovoltaics and a green roof are intended to reduce the operational carbon emissions of the new structure.
Following circular economy principles, the project uses as much salvaged and reused material as possible. For example, an existing timber pergola was dismantled and reused at the south end of the poolhouse. Following the same principles, the existing pool was left untouched, with only limited repairs required to the existing water circulation system.
