B Corp Month

#BCorp Month 2024:

What is a B Corp?

In case you missed it: Certified B Corporations are for-profit companies that use the power of their business to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. Certification shows that they meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

March was B Corp month. It has been around two years now since Ashfold became a certified B Corp. We are starting to see its true impact. In Martin’s words, “becoming a B Corp demonstrates that we aren’t just ‘box-tickers’, we’re committed to doing better.” The certification involves a rigorous assessment process and  indicates that we have met an ambitious set of business standards. Standards that aim to ensure we do better for people and the planet.

B Corp Certification is just the beginning, not the end of our journey to better business. We’re proud of the various net-zero and circular economy principles we’ve been able to implement on recent projects. We’ve also been able to implement ethical decisions in our project tendering and selection process.

Additionally, Jane and Martin volunteered at the local Merton night shelter and plan to continue charitable and volunteering work in the future. As a team we also support the Knights Youth Centre. We were delighted to see the recent visit of Mayor Khan highlighting the importance of youth services in the capital.

Ashfold is also a benefactor of the Wimbledon Bookfest which not only celebrates literature of all kinds, but also aims to bring reading and books to young people across South London. We joined the 2024 launch a few weeks ago, and the festival reaches over 10,000 school children from across ten London boroughs.

We never stop looking for new ways to grow our impact.

What are Our Future Plans?

Thanks to B Corp we are beginning to see clearly that Ashfold can be a catalyst for change in our industry and community. We plan to tackle the issues to re-examine the social aspects of ESG and identify what more we can do.

As a team, we’re committed to change, and we’re aiming to ensure everyone at Ashfold understands the metrics, and how difficult it is to achieve and maintain the B Corp status. The future lies in a more sustainable, fairer world. A goal we’re fully committed to.
