Our role

The Ashfold team contributed to the successful submission of the masterplan in order for this project to become part of the local plan. We co-authored the briefs, created a constraints report and managed the design team on behalf of our client. We also took on a key role in social engagement, supporting the management of local stakeholder consultations and workshops which helped to inform the project vision.

Project details

The Talbot Village Trust was originally formed by the visionary Talbot sisters. They used their inheritance to buy 465 acres of land between Poole and Bournemouth in the 19th century. The aim was to build an experimental village designed to model a self-sufficient way of life.

The Talbot Urban Village TV1 masterplan is one of several projects by the Trust to bring the sisters’ vision into the 21st century. It will develop new sustainable communities on the land in collaboration with local development partners.

The ambitious masterplan sees the green and brownfield site as an opportunity for the sustainable regeneration of the surrounding communities in Bournemouth and Poole. The focus is on reusing existing land, buildings and utilities, and developing green transport systems.

The mixed-use development will become an inclusive community welcoming people at every stage of life, and create a significant source of local jobs, both during construction and in the long term.
